Up Helly Aa 2008, Lerwick, Shetland

The largest and finest fire festival in Europe, where around 1000 "Guizers" parade with this year's Guizer Jarl Roy Leask through Lerwick and on to the spectacular burning of the magnificent galley "Breckon". With images of some of the preparations, the Junior Up Helly Aa events, the daytime and the night time parades, as well as the burning and a taster of some of the guizers' acts, these pages give a flavour of this year's events.
