About
Austin Austin is a full time
Environmental Manager and keen photographer in his spare time. His
main photographic interests reflect his lifelong interest and concern
for all aspects of the natural environment, from astronomical phenomena
to landscape and wildlife. But he also enjoys photographing
people, especially at events, and has developed a special interest
in creating stunning photo-merges that capture unusual viewpoints
of otherwise familiar buildings or viewpoints.
Austin has
lived in Shetland for nearly 20 years, a place he very much regards
as home and where the majority of his photographs have been created. He
has now had a number of images published in local news media and
a few in magazines such as the BBC's "Sky at Night" magazine.
After winning a couple of photographic competitions, making
a number of image sales and undertaking his first commission he
has recently decided to move on to a more professional footing.
This has involved the launch of this website to promote his
work, starting to actively promote his work for sale, and to plan
for a solo exhibition of his photographs sometime next year.
Austin
has been taking photographs since
he was old enough to hold a camera and believes that, in all his
photograph taking the
one key thing that is more likely than anything else to result in a
good photograph is proper planning, both ahead of time and on the day. Having said
that, he recently admitted that some of his most memorable images were taken just by chance. As well
as that, Austin likes to experiment, with some interesting results!
As
you will
gather from these pages Austin has many hobbies and interests
but he has always had an interest in wildlife, travel and wide open
spaces. Of his photography, Austin says "Photography has been my constant companion in recording
some of the places I've been and some of the things I've seen. I
haven't been to or seen a fraction of the places and things that
I would like to have seen and done, mostly for financial reasons
but over the past 2 decades I've been fortunate to capture some
of Shetland's astounding landscape,
wildlife and astronomical phenomena. I'm content with that".
