Welcome... ...and
thank you for visiting my website!
Latest News
1 June 2008 An exhibition of my photographs is now on display at Islesburgh Community Centre, in Lerwick, Shetland. This is my first exhibition and it’s quite a big deal for me - by far the most difficult task was selecting which photos to show; and of course mounting and framing took a lot of effort and energy but I'm delighted with the results. All the photographs were created in Shetland and the exhibition is arranged in 4 mini themes of seals and puffins; landscapes; sky scenes; and things in the landscape. The exhibition runs from 1-28 June and I would be delighted to receive your feedback.
5 May 2008 I have uploaded an initial group of 2008 Shetland Folk Festival photos. These do not yet have any details of performers attached but I hope to add those details soon.
30 March 2008 I was lucky enough to photograph some astonishing atmospheric optical effects today - a sun halo, tangent arc, sun dogs and a sun pillar. Check out these images!
28 March 2008 There was a wonderful glow of Northern Lights (Aurora borealis) in Shetland last night and I've uploaded a few photos.
14 March 2008 My first entry to this year's Rural Gateway photo competition wasn't a winner but was picked for inclusion in the gallery for the first round.
14 February 2008 I've added many new images to my collection of Shetland Landscapes and captioned all the previously blank images in my general collection of Shetland Wildlife.
Older News 9 February 2008 I've uploaded a selection of my Up Helly-Aa 2008 photos. This year I've included a full selection of photos including last minute preparations, both the day and evening processions, shots of the Kirkwall City Pipe Band, the visit to the New Museum as well as the burning of the Galley Breckon and a few shots of the hall festivities. As well as all that I've also added images of the Junior squad and galley as well as their procession and burning. I hope you enjoy them.
7 February 2008 I'm pleased to say that I have now finished uploading images of the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain's Aviemore Sled Dog Rally that took place in mid-January 2008 and have created an index page to all the galleries here.
27 January 2008 - I have simplified my pricing structure so that images are now priced as "Small", "Medium" and "Large" - and all these sizes fit standard, shop bought, mounts. As ever, if you have special requirements or a particular size in mind please contact me and I shall do my best to help.
26 January 2008 - I'm delighted to be able to announce that an initial set of 10 of my photographs are now available to buy online at the Designed In Shetland website, where you'll also find a wide range of Shetland art and craft type goods.
22 January 2008 - I have won the Rural Gateway Photo Competition 2007 with my "Up Helly Aa Light Up" photo! Needless to say I'm thrilled. This photo was the monthly winner for February that was then entered into the annual competition. As many of you will know, this year's Up Helly-Aa is imminent so I'll be looking to better this photo! Many thanks to everyone that voted for me.
Well,
the Shetland
Arts and Crafts
Fair at the end of November was great fun and I met a lot of
people. Thanks to all of you that bought my photographs and
for all the very encouraging comments. It was very useful
indeed to get feedback on what people actually like, as opposed
to what I think might be popular!
I
was very pleased that my noctilucent
cloud image
has selected as as the July image in the BBC's
Sky At Night Magazine Calendar
for 2008. I'm
expecting two other images of mine to appear in 2 other calendars
in the New Year as well but, as both are still being finalised,
you'll have to check back later for news of which ones thay are!
I
have again been very busy and have finished a number of major Viewpoints
projects over the past couple of months. These proved very
popular at the Craft Fair and the ones inside Mousa Broch, of the
Northern Lights at Wadbister and of Bains Beach in Lerwick created
the most interest and comment.
I finished my major 12 @ 1 and 12 @ 2 photographic
projects for 2007 without a hitch. These involved me photographing
panoramas at two different sites on 2 consecutive days each
month of the year. Now the real work begins to compose all
the images (about 250 in all) into two finished works. I hope
to be able to display the first one on the site early in the New
Year.
I have been attending to a number of business
matters as well over the past couple of months - boring stuff like
paperwork, accounts, presentation etc. But all very necessary
as my business continues to grow. Last time I said that preparing
and uploading image galleries was an important and time-consuming
part of the process - well the administration side is equally important,
especially as I continue to develop marketing and publicity. As
the site continues to grow I've made a few minor site improvements
to improve browser compatibility, added some content and put a contact
link on each page that links directly to my contact details - no
more fumbling around tring to find out how to get hold of me!
That's
all for this time; in the meantime, I hope
you enjoy your visit and find some images that
you like. For some of my older images check out my fotopic site at:
http://www.austinsgallery.fotopic.net/
The
photographs on this site represent a small fraction of my photographic
output over many years. I have an extensive image library
and will be delighted to assist you
in finding images - please use the contact details on the "About
Me" page to let me know what you are looking for. I
am also available for commissions and am able to travel throughout
Shetland to meet your needs; travel further afield may be possible
but will require detailed planning because of existing commitments.
Thanks
again
for your interest in my photographs.
