Back from Aviemore, I am now reviewing all the many photos I took at
the
Arden Grange & Siberian Husky Club of GB Aviemore Sled Dog Rally
heats on Saturday and around the event on Sunday. Just a few of

There has been a massive arrival of Iceland gulls in Shetland, at
least 152 according to the count carried out by Shetland Bird Club.

What a Happy New Year! A fantastic sighting of Killer whales on the
first Sunday after the New Year festivities! And what a sighting!
A very big thank you to Karen Hall and Helen Moncrieff for the the
early updates - very soon excitement gripped the south Mainland,
with, perhaps, hundreds of folk enjoying the spectacle at sites from
West Voe, Grutness, Boddam, Tros Wick, Levenwick, Hoswick, Sannick
and elsewhere. These photos are from Levenwick, where I managed to
get my best views.

Well, that's the
Shetland Arts and Crafts Association annual
Craft Fair over for another year and what a fantastic event it's been
again. A big "Thank you!" to all my customers old and new, also to
my dedicated helpers during the set up, break down and transport of
display and stock. Thanks also to the Committee and everyone else
involved in arranging and setting up the show - fantastic effort!

Half price summer sale of a wide range of mounted prints now on. All

I have added new galleries of Sandsound and the visit of about 20
pilot whales to Lerwick Harbour in March.

Sadly, the
long-finned pilot whale
that was apparently escorted, unwell and disorientated into Sullom
Voe on about 12 May finally beached itself late on 14 May and died
in the early hours of 15 May. The gallery shows its general
appearance and how close it was to the shore on the evening of 13 May and some of the crowd that
came to see it. Veterinary staff from the Scottish Agricultural College
in Inverness travelled north to undertake a post mortem today to
attempt to determine its condition, whether it had been feeding and
if it had any disease or injury that would have contributed to its
demise. See

Very sad news - a
long-finned pilot whale
appears unwell and disorientated in Garths Voe, at the head of
Sullom Voe. Gallery shows its general appearance and how close it is
to the shore and some of the crowd that came to see it this evening.

Trail now launched! Around forty craftspeople, artists and related
shops and outlets are participating in opening their workshops or
studios – sometimes purpose built and professional; sometimes just a
